Your patient has Myositis

Most Myositis patients are at risk of falling. They cannot get up from the floor, may have trouble getting out of any chair; have difficulty with even a few steps; have very weak shoulders and grip; have swallowing or serious lung issues, and will not tolerate normal repetitive exercise.

Be patient and proceed slowly. Take the time to talk to your patient and listen to them,
Myositis patients know their limits and will tell you what they are.
Do not leave your patient unattended and use mobility aids as Myositis patients can be at risk of falling.
Do not assume anything, all Myositis patients are at different stages of their disease.
Some patients may not be able to support their weight, climb stairs, squat etc.
Recent studies suggest that exercise is beneficial provided it is adapted to the individual and considers the following:
* Disease activity
* Level of pain
* Degree of muscle fatigue and weakness
* Prescribed medications
