The Art of Antibodies – Dr Thomas Khoo

We were very pleased to have a guest speaker, Dr Thomas Khoo, a rheumatologist and researcher (affiliated with the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Flinders Medical Centre. Manchester Myositis Research Group and a PhD candidate at the University of Adelaide) whose work focuses on inflammatory myopathies and myositis-specific antibodies (MSAs) join us following our 2026 Annual General Meeting.

The identification of myositis-specific antibodies is an important development in understanding and managing myositis. It offers the opportunity to move away from treating myositis as a single disease and towards recognising the distinct characteristics of each person’s condition.

For people living with myositis, this means the potential for earlier recognition of complications, more informed treatment decisions, appropriate monitoring and a better understanding of their individual disease.
