My Myositis Journey

Being diagnosed with a rare and chronic illness can turn life upside down, particularly when the diagnosis comes after months of uncertainty, unanswered questions and declining health. In this deeply personal account, one of our members shares their journey with Immune-Mediated Necrotising Myopathy (IMNM), a rare form of myositis, from the first unexplained symptoms and the challenges of obtaining a diagnosis through to learning to live with the condition.

Once an active traveller, cyclist and lawn bowls enthusiast, they describe the physical and emotional impact of myositis, the importance of finding the right medical support, and the determination to regain independence and return to activities they love. Their story is one of adapting to change, setting new goals and discovering the value of family, friendship and connecting with others who understand.

Above all, it is a reminder that while everyone’s experience of myositis is different, you don’t have to face the journey alone.
